Two Days To Go: Meet Your True North MCs

Only two days to go until we launch True North Festival! We are getting incredibly excited to bring you our range of over 150 events. If you haven’t earmarked your favourites, well, we recommend you get onto it!

For now we would love to introduce you to our hilarious MCs for the weekend. They’ll be presenting our range of live performances, dropping in their own special wit and musicianship, and generally making the weekend at least 67% more hilarious.

THE UKULELE LADIES
Edwardes Street Party MCs, Saturday 22 March
On stage 1-5pm

These ladies are a toe-tapping, thigh-slapping, stocking-snagging, head-banging musical comedy duo. The lovely Dusty Footpaths and Rhododendron Sur la Tibetan Montagne are decked out in gorgeous flaming red outfits and play the entire gamut of musical genres, from Classical to Disco and Hard, Soft, Progressive and Decorative Rock, accompanied by
the best ukuleles money can buy (thanks to Rhododendron’s third divorce settlement.)

The Ukulele Ladies are a bit Vegas, a touch Hawaii, and a tad Tamworth. They enchant and delight audiences of all ages with humour and musical pizzazz.

JUSTINE SLESS
Edwardes Street Party MC, Saturday 22 March
On stage 5-8.30pm

Suburban as a supermarket trolley, dry as a martini and as comforting as a slow cooked lemon cake, Justine has performed stand up since 2006. In 2014 Justine brings to Melbourne International Comedy festival her 8th solo show called SNORE (after selling out last year with Tomatoes and Other Stakeholders).

Justine is a mother of two girls, lives in Preston, can quote Radio National ad nauseum and wears non-threatening footwear, because she works in the not for profit sector.

True North Reservoir Arts Festival 2014

JODIE HILL
Darebin Community & Kite Festival MC, Sunday 23 March
On stage 11am – 4pm

Even when she is NOT trying – Jodie can’t help but be funny.

Jodie J Hill has shared her comedy stylings all over this fine land. She’s surfed the radio waves on  774, Nova, MMM, and FoxFM. She played at numerous festivals, pubs, clubs, salons, lounge rooms, rooftops, corporate and community events – she’s done them all. She’s even stood on an eski to entertain the troops raising money for her local kindergarten…

Cambodian Space Project send a video from Phnom Penh

We were delighted to see that our headliners, Cambodian Space Project, have sent us all a video message from Phnom Penh! They are gearing up to come over to Australia for our Edwardes Street Party on Sat 22 March, and they’re lookin’ forward to it.

A little more about the group:

Cambodian Space Project are a cross-cultural intersection, resulting in decidedly unique re-workings of classic Cambodian pop and rock ‘n’ roll, blended with surf, reggae, dub and psychedelia. They not only cover and preserve songs from the ‘golden age’ of 60s Cambodian pop but also write their own dazzlingly original Khmer psychedelic rock.

The band has a strong political context which informs their shows. When the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia, all traces of the music, including the physical records, from the 60s ‘golden era’ of Cambodian pop were systematically wiped out. Cambodian Space project revisits these important cultural artefacts – and the story behind them – with their music and songwriting.

We can’t wait to have them on stage!
